The Virginia Bar Examination consists of the Virginia Essay Exam and the Multistate Bar Examination (MBE). The Virginia Essay Exam consists of nine essay questions and 10 multiple-choice questions. The exam is administered on the last Tuesday and Wednesday in February and July each year.
The Virginia Essay Exam consists of nine 36-minute essays that can test the following subjects: Conflict of Laws, Constitutional Law, Contracts, Business Organizations, Creditors' Rights, Criminal Law, Domestic Relations, Evidence, Federal Practice and Procedure, Local Government Law, Professional Conduct, Real and Personal Property, Sales, Torts, Trusts, Uniform Commercial Code, Virginia Civil and Criminal Procedure (including appellate practice), and Wills and Estate Administration. The Virginia Essay Exam also includes 10 multiple-choice questions that together are weighted as one essay.
The MBE consists of 200 multiple-choice questions that test the following areas: Civil Procedure, Constitutional Law, Contracts & Sales, Criminal Law & Procedure, Evidence, Real Property, and Torts. Of the 200 questions, 175 are scored questions and 25 are unscored pre-test questions. The pre-test questions are indistinguishable from the scored questions.
My constant dialogue with the Themis staff helped me avoid feeling overwhelmed and optimized my study time. Without the personalized support, quick response time and such a flexible/adaptable program, I would've been in heaps of trouble. I still cannot fathom why anyone would pay double or triple for an inferior product. Thanks Themis!
